Another great book from Lisa Genova about the mind and its complex intricacies of operation. Of course, it is about more than the mind. It is about life choices and what we value in life, what we give our time to that reveals our priorities. The book, also, examines how success is defined, that we can determine it for ourselves, not have it determined by others. Is happiness part of the equation, or is it an issue best ignored for the greater good, whatever that may be? How much money, how much ...more

Left Neglected, by Lisa Genova, narrated by Sarah Paulson, produced by Simon and Schuster, downloaded from audible.com.

Lisa Genova is, I understand, a neurologist. As in her first book, “Still Alice”, she writes about a very successful woman who has a car accident resulting in a particular kind of brain injury, called “Left Neglect” This is a kind of injury that keeps a person from paying attention to anything on the left side of her body. She will only be able to see the right side of a room, r

In Left Neglected, the prologue opens with 'I think some part of me knew I was living an unsustainable life.' And proceeds to tell the reader that she ignored all messages her conscious and unconscious mind were trying to send her. Once again, Lisa Genova could be talking about anyone of us living in this fast paced world. The author spends a good deal of time showing us, Sarah's, over-scheduled life before a tragic car accident literally changes her view of her world forever. A traumatic brain ...more

I loved this story! I loved how Lisa Genova took a subject I had never heard about and turned it into a book I couldn't put down. I loved Sarah's charm and sense of humor, I loved Bob's love for Sarah, I loved the connection Sarah and her mother had. I loved all the characters and how Sarah came through a rough time in her life focusing not on how her life was over but how her life grew with a disability. That's two home runs for LIsa Genova and I can't wait for her next book. ...more

I love this story almost as much as Still Alice. This is a story that will make you laugh and cry and remind you how important family and believeing in yourself can be. I enjoyed Sarah and her family and all the people she encounters that help her along the way. Lisa Genova does a great job at explaining neglect and making Sarah's struggles and triumphs something you feel too. This is a really good book and you should add it to your list to read. ...more

Lisa Genova is an amazing writer. Her imagery is poetic! I also love the way she can get inside the mind of someone. Since she is a neurologist as well as a writer, I'm hoping she has more brain addled stories to tell! ...more

I liked Still Alice, this author's first novel, but I think this one was better. It's a quick reads (and fairly light considering the subject matter). ...more

Great book from the author of Still Alice, one of my favorite books. The writing is enjoyable, if not literary, but the story is compelling and the science very accessible. Great Summer read.

Genova describes the aftermath of a traumatic brain injury from the perspective of the patient. Too late to make a difference in my mother's life, but maybe it will make a difference in your life or mine. ...more
