Another solid Pendergast novel from Douglas Preston and Lincoln Childs. This book reunites Pendergast and Vincent D'Acosta in search for a seemingly supernatural murderer. A man is murdered in a room in his locked, alarmed house in Southampton, NY. Vincent D'Acosta has returned from Canada leaving his not so lucrative career of writing crime procedurals behind him (along with his wife and son)but instead of being reinstated as a Lieutenant in the NYPD he's found a job as a Sargent with the South

My latest read and I've started another book by Douglas Preston, Brimstone--one thing I have to say, they start quickly. No waiting for the book to get good, no wading through page after page of dull introductory stuff--these are good within the first few words--if you happen to like gruesome murders. I don't. I do like the writing and the sense of not truth of the fact that these guys know a lot or manage to make it seem like they do. I like Pendergast because he's cool and nice and not a jerk

After reading this book, I have realised that I don't enjoy books that start out being something mystical or magical and then turn out to be something boring and normal. I prefer my books to start out normal and then become magical. Although well-researched, I was so irritated that the supernatural had very little to play in how things turned out and think I'm not going to read one of their books for a very long time. There's too much method writing going on there.

Loved it! I really like the books featuring FBI agent Aloysius Pendergast. He is such a fascinating, enigmatic character. And the mysteries are really wild. I went straight to the bookstore to get the book that comes right after this one, and I was dismayed to learn that Brimstone is the first in a trilogy. I didn't have enough cash on me for the third book. Tragic.

I enjoyed this one but not as much as "The Cabinet of Curiosities" and "Still Life with Crows" though but must admit that I remain a faithful admirer of Pendergast.
And I always have fun reading the Preston/ Child novels anyways....I buy them all . ...more

This wasn't as good as Cabinet of Curiosities but I still found it to be an excellent read.
