After North America was almost destroyed, the nation of Paem emerges. There are 12 districts which they keep under a tight rein by staging The Hunger Games each year. Where two "tributes" from each district fight to the death in an arena. This has become great entertainment. This year, Kaitliss' sister is chosen as tribute so she steps in to take Prim's place.

The hungers games, just Wow. If you haven't read it i Strongly recommend it(wow that rhythms). I loved every bit of it.It was EXCITING, FULL of ADVENTURE, ACTION PACKED, put a little ROMANCE in the Mix, and you got a great book. I love Katniss as a heroine, strong, caring and a unique individual.Who has a wicked arm with the bow and arrow. I felt like i was a literary a citizen in the book watching every bit of it happen.I was rooting for Katniss and Peeta the whole time. It was funny because whe

The Hunger Games was a fast-paced, well written story that grips you from the first sentence and doesn't let go. It's one of those stories that you can't get out of your head, one that haunts your dreams.
I love to read action and adventure stories. This one was definitely not lacking in action! And Katniss is a wonderful character. Peeta is so sweet, Gale a perfect best friend.

Katniss Everdeen lives in Panem. Panem is the former Untied States. Instead of fifty states, there is now twelve districts. The book starts on the day of the Reaping. That is when they choose 2 people from each district, a boy and a girl, to fight in the Hunger Games. Katniss has the surprise of her life, when her sister Primrose is called in to the Hunger Games. Kat volunteers to take her place.

Since this book was one of the last books I read, I thought I start to make reviews with this book. It won't probably be posible to go backwards with all the books I've read, but at least this will be the start.
First of all, I loved the plot. Suzanne Collins has created very interesting world, where the very modern and society from the feudal times are combined. You have the district 12 which lives very poorly, where you have the exchange economy and market and then you have the modern parts of ...more

I'm late jumping on The Hunger Games bandwagon, but better late than never!
There were a lot of expectations for this book. I have heard so many things about it over the years so there was a lot of pressure.
From the first chapter this book had my attention. It was slow starting for me and at first I found I read only one chapter at a time, as opposed to gobbling large chunks of it in one sitting that is usual for me.

So, of course, this is the dystopian series that started it all. The Hunger Games. The whole series has been sitting on my shelf for a while now, and when I found out I'd be taking two thirteen-hour flights, I figured it was time to buckle down and start this thing. And boy, am I glad I did. Let's start with how I was expecting it though (this is in no way a full review, but only my current thoughts, which admittedly are a bit scatter-brained):

I cannot stop thinking about this book ever since I finished it. I have to admit that at first I wondered what the heck I was reading... I mean a meal of rabbit, tree bark and pig entrails?!?! GROSS! Plus, all through part one I was very emotional and I think it was because I was looking at these characters through a mother's eyes. I can't imagine my children getting taken away from me to endure the things these children do and you have no control over it. Once part 2 started I was hooked and co

Rereading the Hunger Games after such a long time I expected it not to hold up to my teenage memory. It, however, held strong enough to retain its original five star rating.
It was emotional, full of suspense and actually had a good ending that didn't feel like a money grab when it lead into another book.
I will forever be bitter about the love triangle. I'm of the strong opinion that no love triangles should exist in books. ...more

This reminded me alot of Stephen King's The Long Walk. It was very good. I think Katniss really cared about Peeta and was torn with having to pretend at the romance. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
