Review of Glory Road -- This is science fiction from one of the early masters of the genre. I picked it up once when I had a coupon from Borders largely on the recommendation of a blogger I liked, who cites it as his favorite book of all time and, in fact, has taken many elements of his on-line persona from the book.

I enjoyed this book though at times the writing style was a little hard to follow. This follows a "hero" recruited by the Empress of 20 universes to help retrieve a stolen object of great power. There is plenty of action and quite a bit of satirical humor.

A fun romp if you can get past the casual sexism and of-its-time viewpoints. Just because a woman is hyper-competent and beautiful and sexy doesn't make her a strong female character. (Why do I think Joss Whedon is a huge Heinlein fan?)
The audiobook was read by Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki Bartakamous) and he did a bang-up job, giving Rufo an outrageous French accent and Oscar a dry, Midwestern tone. His Star was also quite good, feminine without being falsetto. I may look to see what else he's ...more
