First to set the edition - this is the version of the book with the single ending - those of you who are aware know that its publishers demanded a rewrite as they were not happy with the original ending Heinlein wrote.
The second point to make is - take a look at the stories original publication date - my version is dated 1963.

Audiobook - April 2018 -- very nice performance by Emily Janice Card, particularly expressing Podkayne's exuberance. The text occasionally made me grit my teeth (not 100% a fan of RAH's portrayal of female characters) but I still enjoy the story.
I did sneak in a quick re-read of Podkayne of Mars by Robert Heinlein within a weekend. Interesting to see a RAH heroine in teenage form; despite the work being dated both technologically and sociologically.

It had been a while since I'd been exposed the that dirty old man, Heinlein. I was hoping that the sometimes fun and happy go lucky tone that I remembered could carry the story, but sadly, poor Podkayne becomes a teenage mouthpiece for his gender policing. She starts out with dreams of becoming a spaceship captain and her mom is a successful engineer, but her voyage to Venus brings out the baby-crazy in her and she narrows her vision. Didn't like it the first time around when I read it as a teen, and didn't find anything to improve my rating this go-around.
