A YA SF novel where most Americans (from about age 5 up) have brain implants that allow them to access the Internet (and vice versa) 24/7. The book focuses on teens, where they can tap into the knowledge of the human race, but are more interested in partying and changing fashions on a daily (if not hourly) basis, as they are constantly bombarded with advertisements. Feed follows a teenager in the future when everyone who can afford it has had their brains augmented with access to networked information, entertainment, communication, and of course, commerce. Peoples' brains seem to have rotted into a consumer-driven mush, and school has been replaced with School(tm) which helps you better learn how to discover and acquire the things that you want. I had a lot of problems with this book, including some sloppy writing.

I think the Feed is supposed to be like having the Internet in your head but in the book we really only see it used for something akin to instant messaging, selling things, and there's a reference to playing games. But because the emphasis is so strongly on the Feed as an advertising venue it's hard to see why anyone would agree to it. Well, that was pretty unpleasant to me.
The MC is a shallow, illiterate, spoiled, rich kid, and his friends are worse.
Excessive profanity.
