this may not be the best book i ever read, but it was an absolutely delightful, addictive little book. which is why, when i finished it one night, i went out the next morning and bought book two. a richly interwoven fantasy, with an equally rich world that parallels but is definitely different from our own. lots of fun!

I truly loved this book after giving it a second chance. Apparently, it is being attacked by the Catholic church. Ofcourse, what fantasy doesn't get attacked by the catholic church. Whether there are any anti-religious views in this book at all, I don't get that out of it. It spoke to me more from the view of someone as an animal lover that has experienced a connection with her pets overtime. This, very honestly, might be the best Young Adult fantasy novel ever written (and one of the best fantasy novels written for any age group). This world is so fully developed and enchanting, I'm at a loss to even come close to describing it. Just read it.
