Well this was a very long book. Far superior to the terrible movie. This was actually a pretty good science fiction story with a huge rich multi universe world. The main bad guy was sneaky and interesting. The main good guy was too good and I really disliked him!

As I scanned through the other reviews of this book, I noticed something rather interesting: very FEW 3-star ratings (at least among the couple screens that I skimmed through). I find it interesting that this book tends to evoke such strong and diverse opinions in many readers. (Dan Brown's The da Vinci Code caused similar reactions but, unlike Battlefield Earth, it also derived some benefit from a reasonably well-made movie adaptation.)

Every hundred pages or so I'd check the length of the book again and think "what is he going to fill another X-hundred pages with?". There were probably 3 parts where it would have made sense to end it.

I really disliked how easy the humans became masters of so many modern pursuits - piloting, economics, mathematics, electrical engineering, etc. Their ability to learn is explained but it in no way justifies the breadth of what they are able to grok in such a short time.
