David Brin to me will always be the Uplift wars an incredibly clever and intricate series of science fiction books really following the vein of Space Opera. But this is not all his work - you have many great titles from Earth to the Postman and of course this title.
Now many themes are explored in his work being a true SCIENCE fiction writer as it were. Here we have the idea of "what if'' being explored with of course the idea that "what if practice really did make things better.."

The concept was interesting. The story was ok, but not spectacular; it was faster paced than some of his other stuff. the explanation for the practice effect at the end was so short and abrupt that it really didn't work for me.

I really liked this. A crazy premise, with interesting results. Good sci-fi!
Edit: This is engineer porn. A scientist ends up in a crazy situation, but his know-how saves the day. It's not Brin's best. ...more
