Tim Powers writes fantasy horror novels, where the fantasy is usually more supernatural otherworldliness than high fantasy, and the horror is more unnerving dark spirituality than things trying to break down your door to kill you. I tried. I got around 35% of the way through on the Kindle, realized that there was SO much more to come, and gave up. I love the premise and it's everything I would expect to like -- mythological events playing out unnoticed by regular people in the modern world -- but somehow it felt like work instead of fun. This is one of those rare instance where I'd rather read a synopsis and then go on to something I enjoy more.

A highly complex book that succeeds in bringing the Arthurian myth to Las Vegas. Since I'm interested in Tarot cards, it was very cool to have that as an element in the plot, as well as all sorts of gambling ephemera. Powers clearly knows what he's writing about.
