Had this as audiobook, and at times had to pause or go back, as the action is fast, the language is rich, and it seems like much is very quickly said.
Wonderfully rich language was a lovely change from more bland authors (looking at you Ben Bova, and others) and wondering why haven’t read more? Story is as described, and has the feel of the Sagas, if not all of them of course, so well done Anderson!
Magic, evil witches, Elves, head-splitting axes, love and betrayal. What more would you want?

Mini-review: A classic of the fantasy genre as it was before Tolkien (The Broken Sword was released the same year as The Fellowship of the Ring), and certainly a must-read for any fan of the genre, and a good romp over all. Throw in one part Shakespearean tragedy, one part Greek ditto, one part Norse saga, two parts mixed folklore and a generous measure violence and dark fantasy.
