Out of all of Williams books that I have read this one has not been the best. It got off slow - which I was expecting, I remember the 1st of the Otherland series was excrutiatingly slow, in part due to the introductions to the stories of the vast amount of characters involved in the story.

The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams is the first in the four book Memory, Sorrow, Thorn fantasy series (okay, this series is SORT of a four book series). As far as fantasy goes, this is a pretty stellar book (and trilogy). There's nothing mind-blowing here, it's just a well crafted, lovingly written epic. William's prose is fluid and graceful, and Simon is one of my favorite fantasy characters ever. I first read this in middle school, and I just re-read the trilogy recently. I curled up with it on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Felt like a kid again. ...more
