What Members Thought

While more exciting than the first volume of the Memory Sorrow & Thorn books, I still found Stone of Farewell to be pretty bland (for a Tad Williams book).
Thankfully, Simon is becoming a more interesting & developed character but I don't think it should have taken almost 1,600 pages for me to start to feel that interest.
In any case I'll continue to trudge through 'til the end & keep up hopes that the following volumes are better than their predecessors. ...more

A Review of Stone of Farewell

Stone of Farewell is the second book in Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow, Thorn trilogy (it's sort of also a tetrology because the third book was originally split into two books). This book is much better than the first in the series. It's got a lot more going on, and the pace is much quicker.
The plot moves much quicker in this book than the previous book, which was a lot of set-up. Some of the side stories ...more

I know it sounds like Lord of the Rings, but it’s all in the details, people. (Though he does team up with a dwarf and spend some time with some Elf-like folk.) I found the first book in the series, The Dragonbone Chair, a bit of a slog, but this book picked things up considerably. W ...more
