I'd like to start with; I found this book through goodreads in a discussion. People were raving about the book, so I decided to check it out.

George R R Martin introduces us to a very realistic brand of fantasy - full of violence, political intrigue, infighting between powerful men carried along by the tide of fortune. This is a far cry from elves and fairies. To my mind, it is the start of a fantastic new series.

Brian and Lauren said to read this... Do I dare start another "nerdling" marathon series? I think so!
