The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury is "half-cousin to a novel" and "a book of stories pretending to be a novel" (Ray Bradbury: The Life of Fiction by Jonathan R. Eller and William F. Touponce, 2004, p. 111). Those description fit most of Bradbury's books, the one major exception being Farenheit 451 (1953).

Bradbury at his most controlled and at his best. Still filled with his beautiful language that leaps out from the page, but this collection is more controlled and nuanced. Especially look out for "There Will Come Soft Rains".

My first Bradbury book. A great read and I followed up the Something Wicked This Way Comes. Martian Chronicles definitely wasn't what I expected in regards to heavy sci-fi. It was still and excellent read.
