"She reads minds. He controls minds. Together, they might get out alive." Forbidden Mind is a YA paranormal thriller/romance (Some say it's also sci-fi!) Think X-Men meets human trafficking.

Like another book I've read recently, this one reminded me of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Funny enough, the main characters and her friends have X-Men as one of their favorite movies. It also reminded me of another book, but I'll put that below because it will contain some spoilers. I did wonder why they chose now to start wondering about things going on at their school - but had they done so how more depressing their lives would have been than they already were. Also, the ending seemed so abrupt though when I thought the more exciting part of the story was just getting started. Also, the romance seemed to happen rather quickly too - I'm not quite sure I believe it but I can understand it because of their shared experience. It just feels like it needed to be flushed out more, I guess.
I did like some phrases that the author used to convey the emotions of the characters, like one sentence about wishing on dead stars.
It was a nice, quick read. I do want to read what happens with these characters in books 2 and 3 as I did like the characters and the plot.
I have more to say about this book, but the rest contains spoilers - see below after some general information regarding the book.
Spoilers for this book and Never Let Me Go - Read at your own risk
This book reminded me of Never Let Me Go because the children in that book were created to harvest organs and in this book, they were being made to create a super-paranormal person/group.
In both books, I wondered why it took so long for them to question their lives at the schools... in Never Let Me Go, they just accepted that is what their life was and in this one, they just didn't know why they were there (other than as a Rent-A-Kid) and where they came from until Drake came along and they started to question. I guess it is just me. Maybe I'm having a hard time putting myself in their shoes - if you didn't know any better, why would you question it? As Sam said, questioning what they were there for to do so would also mean having to mourn the end of her dreams. But Ana is a different question - she knew about it, but chose to remain quiet and I understand why as a mother of 3 children but why would she decide to do something now? It just seemed so convenient.
And speaking of abruptness from above, all of a sudden, she's pregnant? I felt like we needed to know more on how that happened....more
