my favorite of the alanna books (and the first that i read, a year or so after it was published). ties up all the loose ends, has plenty of action, introduces the interesting and wonderful characters buri & thayet, and provides plenty of introspection. of all the books i read growing up, these have the absolute best romantic set ups - and i still don't encounter very many books (YA or not) that allow women to have agency in their partnerships (short-term and long-term) and j ...more
