This is a book to make you remember why we read. It not only takes you to a new world, it makes you want to go there, to know these people, to become part of their lives, to join in their quest. The second book in Fionavar is simply amazing. He can write so well, what takes Tolkien a chapter to paint, Kay does in a page or two. And he just plays with your emotions so effortlessly:

This is probably closer to a 3 1/2. The thing that made me enjoy it less than The Summer Tree was all the Arthurian elements. In the first book, they were just eluded to, but in this book they have become more front and center. I've never been that big of a fan of the story (or maybe I'm just a bit tired of it). The other thing I don't like as much in this book, particularly as compared to Guy Gavriel Kay's other books like Tigana, is the lack of nuance with the "evil" characters. The good chara
