The premise is that the entire human race finds itself mysteriously resurrected on the banks of an enormous river, with a strange container that provides food and other amenities for them. The question is why - is this really life after death? The first book in the Riverworld Saga follows the resurrected Richard Burton as he attempts to unravel these mysteries.
