this book has taken me longer to get through than almost anything else i've ever read, and it's not just because of the size. constantine's prose is extremely heavy-handed, and it often gets in the way of his story-- which, after all is said and done, was not a bad one. the plot he put his characters through was pretty interesting, but so often it was impossible to see the shape of that plot because of the way the story was told. the entire first volume of the trilogy is mostly exposition, whic ...more

I read this years ago.
My local public library had a surprising number of Storms books and during my unemployed bum phase of 1998-1999 I was at the local library borrowing books and reading like a MANIAC and read all the Storm Constantine books they had.
They had the first and third book that are contained in this omnibus but I refused to read #3 till I had read #2.
I was drawn by the pretty boy artwork on the covers at the time. lol

There are a lot of books that are hard for me to put down, but I literally couldn't sleep until I finished the last third of this one. It's a work of art more than a story. Poetic prose, driving characters, enough action so that no one should be bored. There is also an important message in this story about the future of humankind and the nature of consciousness. ...more
