I found the protagonist here more purely sympathetic than in most of the Darkover novels, perhaps because she is so young and innocent when the story commences. Alas, like most nice characters in Bradley's books, she suffers horrible atrocities. Be warned that there is some fairly graphic rape and abuse portrayed. ...more
