I’ve never read a book that more starkly highlighted for me how thankful the good people of the world should be that the allies won World War II. While my final rating was a somewhat subdued 3 stars, there are parts of this story that I found extremely compelling.

That rare thing - a thriller that is intelligent, fast-paced, historically accurate and deeply satisfying. A historical what if that is quite audacious, handled with considerable aplomb. Move over Dan Brown!

A detective novel set in an alternate history where Germany was not defeated in WW2, but instead fought to a standstill.

Again, the Goodreads rating system fails. Half stars, please. I'd give this 3.5, but since I can't, it gets 3. Yes, I rounded down on this one.

Much as I love alternative history as a niche genre, I found this to be surprisingly ho-hum given the amount of raves it received at the time. The "twist" is telegraphed and very unsatisfying at the end. The denouement was entirely unsatifying.
