I finally got around to reading the third book and really enjoyed it. I will be starting on book 4 soon, just in time for book 5 to come out in July! Then I shall join the hordes of fans waiting for him to write the next book.
This series grows on you. Fun stuff. I need next book pretty bad. =/
re-reading in preparation for A Dance with Dragons. Every bit as great the second time through, although this has some of the most heart-wrenching events of the entire series. It says a lot about the strength of Martin's characterization how much it hurts to lose characters--or to see their fortunes change. Might be the best of the entire series (so far--sincerely hope that he tops it).

Took me a long time to finish as I had put it aside for a while. But when I picked it back up I dove right in as if I had never left. The political machinations are fascinating and so much death. Some unexpected. Brilliant.
