I plan on giving all of my Karin Fossum reviews the same statement because I don't even want the hint of a spoiler on this woman's fantastic work. Fossum's writing gave me my love of Scandanavian mystery writers and I seek those writings out. Hands down,though, Fossum's work is the best I have come across so far.

Karin Fossum's mysteries are so much more than that. She creates memorable characters who come to life within your mind. Some you come to care about and others you dislike intensely, but with all of whom you can empathize...their humanity is so painfully evident. I am always left with the sense of having been transported to a different place, of having been a "fly on the wall" in the lives of these people.

I thought this was pretty good. It was a little similar to 'When the Devil Holds the Candle' murder-wise, but I could empathize with the characters and the story held my attention.

Such a different police procedural novel - very powerful and emotional.
Fossum's characters are sensitive & real and one can't help but get emotionally involved with all things happening to them.
