Given the heinous nature of these summer crimes the willfully glacial pace of the narrative is unforgivable.

I wouldn't recommend it. I usually stop reading when I'm not enjoying a book, but I did finish this one. I found the characters dull and the plot uninspiring. The most interesting aspect was the inspector's conflict about retirement.

I like the Inspector's sense of humor, but there were a few too many red herrings for me here. Even when the murder is explained, the explanation seemed too tidy. But it's well-written, and an easy escape. I may check out one more in this series before writing it off.

I enjoyed this new book from Hakan Nesser. I wouldn't call it as strong as the other I have read of his, but it was a 4 star read for me, but not a solid 4 star read. Normally, Nesser's books take off right from the start, but this one took a bit more time for me to get involved with it.
