This is an amazing book not only due to it's content, but also because of the strength you see the author utilize to change her life. Very inspiring, upsetting and shocking. Impossible to imagine that this abusive community still goes on in the US. And living in Texas right now, this book is even more poignant.

Wow, what a heartbreaking story. It is crazy how people could turn religion into an excuse for abuse. It was a fascinating read, but also hard to read. Carolyn didn’t suffer as much physical abuse as emotional. She always lived in fear and with family dynamic so foreign to my own. I am glad she escaped, but the religious teachings still had a hold on her oldest daughter. 4 stars!

Several times through the book I had to remind myself that this was a real person's life. It is so far out there. So sad that women and children are really living under these conditions. They need to be freed. Carolyn was a brave woman and example to others.

I was fascinated by Carolyn Jessop's descriptions of living within a polygamist marriage and how she escaped the FLDS. It's frightening that women and children are so abused and neglected within the United States to this day...all in the name of religion.
