I really like Homer Hickam's books, and I especially like the ones that are about him and his growing-up years in West Virginia. This one takes place when he is in high school, nearly ready to graduate. It gives the reader an inside look at what it was like growing up in the coal towns that proliferated in West Virginia and western Pennsylvania during those years.
