2.5 stars. As well as she can write it was very preachy, which I find especially frustrating because I truly feel this is exactly the type of book that needs to be written and read. With me she's preaching to the choir but I would love to hear the opinion of someone across the political aisle from me. It just felt like a story stretched out along the points she wanted to make.

This book alternates between the stories of two families living in the same house in different times periods, one in modern day, and one in the 1880s. Both time periods are filled with political and social upheaval involving fear of change and the questioning of what is true. There are a lot of parallels between the two time periods and the story had a lot of potential, however for me it fell completely flat.
