They had a secret, the two of them, and there was no better way to start a friendship than with a secret.

Hen spots a trophy that she is sure was taken from an unsolved murder scene in her former neighborhood. She immediately suspects that her neighbor, Matthew, is the murderer, which seems like a crazy leap, but as it turns out (as we learn in chapter 2), she’ ...more

When you read the synopsis, you think this is just going to be another hysterical woman who nobody believes story. You know right from the beginning that Hen’s next door neighbor is a serial killer. Hen knows too, but because she’s bipolar and has a history of paranoia, no one believes her. But it isn’t that, and it had a twist that I did not see coming at all, and I love it when that happens. Not as good as The Kind Worth Killing, but better than his other books.

Enjoyed this creepy, solid read that keeps you turning pages and has a few little twists towards the end. I would’ve liked more character development and for the plot to have moved a little more quickly, but ultimately enjoyable. Neighbor is a killer with a really freaky brother, protagonist might be unreliable, killers wife may or may not know what’s going on, and who is really the bad guy here?
