Enjoyable.
Set against the coups and unrest in Iran in the 50s forward, this is a powerful love story about culture and mothering and love, most of all, and the choices we make where any or all three are concerned.
To be fair, I should know better than to read books that people repeatedly describe as "heartbreaking." But the author also undermined the momentum of the plot for me by giving massive spoilers throughout the whole book. I suspect it's meant to give the sense of inexorable fate, but for me it just removed all sense of suspense or curiosity. There did turn out to be quite a few surprises I didn't anticipate, but they didn't mitigate the primary plot points given away throughout. The descriptions

A beautiful but a bittersweet story about love, loss, longing, life and moving on.

This was a nice story with the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution of 1953. A lot about love and books and the power of words. A nice read.
