I have dropped a few of Silva's later books after reading the first 15 or so. The topics just did not interest me. but this one was back to the Vatican - the other 2 he wrote which took place there were some of my favorites. I found the whole book really interesting and I loved getting Donati and Gabriel Allon back together. The mystique of the Vatican is a great environment for a thriller, and since I have been disillusioned with the Church after their sex scandals, I found the idea of corrupti ...more

As a lapsed Catholic and Jesuit educated, I definitely found many food for thought here - left and right wing groups within the Church, how literally should the Bible be taken, the role Catholic leaders played during WW2. It was also interesting to see a mention of the Manila cardinal. I appreciated the author's note detailing which parts were real and which were fiction. ...more
