For ten years I have had this lurking in my bookshelf, looking sad and lonely somewhere behind my nail polishes, waiting patiently and stoically to be picked up. To me, although Dickens is one of my favorite authors, David Copperfield with its less than interesting premise was always the least alluring of his novels. why was Rosa Dartle flagged by Dickens?...what was Rosa's unforgivable "sin" that makes her irredeemable in Dicken's eyes ? everything in his works is simple, his judgments about characters are never exactly subtle...this one is bad, this is good... My all time favourite Dickens. I love his London - the horror and beauty spilling into every crack of humanity jerks you alive. This story is timeless.
