Vanessa munroe specializes in getting information about countries for clients. She is hired by Richard Burbank to see if she an find his stepdaughter Emily who disappeared in Africa 4 years ago. A good thriller.
A premise with so much potential that ends up squandered in the execution - I simply don't buy Munroe as a character, which ends up poisoning the whole thing for me. While I have a certain expectation that thriller protagonists will be larger than life, Munroe is so far over the top that she becomes a cartoon. Speaks 22 languages? The main plot line, that of the heroine trying to locate a long lost daughter who disappeared in Africa many years ago was mildly interesting to me. What was much more intriguing was the history of the main character and her aptitude as a linguist.
Really fun thriller. Loved the West African setting and being able to learn more about Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, two countries I know almost nothing about.
