A look at the lives of Muslim women in the Middle East and North Africa by a female Western journalist who was the Middle East correspondent for the Wall Street Journal in the late 80s/early 90s. Brooks does a great job delineating what Islam says about women's roles and what different Muslim countries perceive as women's roles--it's not always the same, nor does each country define them the same way.
