Ugh.
I loved the premise--a hard-boiled book detective on the case of two mysterious tomes, both leaving deaths in their wakes. Plus I'm a fan of The Three Musketeers, which figures prominently in the plot. The story didn't deliver though, and I think the writing may have lost something in translation; it was pretty clumsy. Although it had to be as tiresome in Spanish as it was in English when our hero repeatedly went over the body catalog of his mysterious, younger, female self-appointed bodyguard,

I avoided this author like the plague as my husband raved about his books and I don't generally like what he does but this book was excellent. I may have to read more of his offerings.
