I was all set to give this four stars if I didn't like the ending. I thought it was going to be an ambiguous ending where you don't know what the true story is, which I think would have been the easy way out. But in fact, the ending snuck up on me. I borrowed this from the library and read it on my IPhone. I thought I had about 100 pages left, but it turned out that they were the questions to the author and for the reader. I was originally skeptical of this book. I expected to be irritated with a white American perspective re-appropriating the North Korean experience in a limited, dimensionless story, but I was really captivated by this book.
