Fourth read:

These are reliable comfort reads for me and I enjoy them every time I pick them up. Looking forward to the new book in this series, which was recently published.

Third read:

AMS wrote a new novel in this series, and I'm rereading the series through once more until I come to the new one and finish it. This series has magic and happiness baked right in, and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in Botswana, but more than that, for people who are looking for a panacea of decency a

This is another good entry in the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. I really like these books because they look at the human qualities of people, and the reader learns that people are the same all over the world, regardless of their culture, country, or the color of their skin. It is a great series. ...more

Ah, another satisfying read from McCall Smith from the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series--with its familiar cast of beloved characters. Except, in this volume, we finally meet a character who has only been known from his written work--the esteemed master detective, Clovis Anderson! Borrowed in Kindle form from our US library & read on my Kindle. ...more

I don't know if this book is really less intriguing than the earlier ones in the series or if I've just gotten stale on them. I just felt like it was too predictable. The characters didn't reveal any new depth, the foster children disappeared, the solutions to the mysteries were too obvious. I have a sneaking suspicion that the author is having this "ghost written" by someone who is plodding along in the worn out formula. ...more

I was disappointed at the beginning but it picked up a good bit as I went along. Finishes up with 3 stars--not really 4 due to the not-so-hot beginning.

Spoiler: Clovis Anderson is from my hometown!! And went to my University!! Too darned cool!

ok...I THOUGHT I recalled in a previous book that the little girl (can't spell it since I have audio version) Mutalali?? had had surgery and could walk now, but here she is in the wheelchair??? Am I wrong?? Surely someone in the Alex McCall Smith organizati
