This is certainly an important book for someone who is interested in the mammals of the South Pacific and the natural history of the area. Tim Flannery is a Zoologist from Australia, who looked for signs of species of bats and rats that exist in the Pacific Islands of Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands, Fiji and New Caledonia. This book narrates the author's work exploring and documenting the small mammals on remote islands near New Guinea. He combines travel narrative with scientific explanation in a clear, entertaining way. This book is pretty light on the scientific information, but is written with humor and the natural descriptions of truly unique flora and fauna really kept my interest.
