Wow. I can see why everyone loves this series. It moves. Right from the start, we have action. Laia's house is infiltrated by Martials, her brother captured, and she has to run or be killed. Then we turn to Elias, at the top of his elite training academy to become a Mask, but he's planning to run. First of all this does not feel like a YA fantasy. This felt more adult. And just because you don’t have smut does not make it young adult. I think it was pure marketing in that aspect.
Now I was really excited to start this finally after years of having this in my tbr and what a let down. I mean I honestly didn’t care about any of the characters half way through the book. I just felt bored and not interested in the plot as well.
I don’t know - sorry but this one was just not for me.

Fantastic read! I read most of this book on Audible and it was so much fun. The world and its military focus was really interesting, and then I liked the small touch of fantasy with the Augurs and different supernatural creatures/beings. I liked the development of the characters and just ahhh, so much <3 Full Review to come!
