What Members Thought

Would you believe me if I said that I believed that this was about a real, obscure band from the '70s for the first two hours of the audio book?
I mean, I love '40s to '90s music. I still search avidly for the stuff. So imagine my excitement at this band I've never heard of, with a book written in an interview format where everyone's views of the same moment are juxtaposed against each other. I googled their music immediately. Imagine my simultaneous disgruntlement and admiration of the genius of ...more

Okay. So this is basically ‘A Star Is Born’ with more angst, far less likeable characters, and better lyrics. What makes this book, for me, was how the story was told. It was a good story and well-written. However it could have been just that. But the interview style added another dimension, depth to the story.
The Six were a good band but, with Daisy, they were incredible. Then they broke up. This book unravels why they broke up.

Since I read and loved
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
before this one, and this book had received so much hype, my first reaction upon completion was slight disappointment - still a good read but not great. Yet I couldn't quit thinking about it that first night -- the characters, the format, the fact that it reminded me so much of two major bands from the 70s. So I started reading interviews with Reid about the book. My theories about the bands were mostly correct, and that sent me on ano
