Goodreads Choice award for best Historical Fiction of 2017

An entertaining read of old Hollywood intrigue, sex and glamour. A soap opera gossipy style story with a few twists and turns to keep the reader interested and turning the pages.

The book tells the story of a fictional star called Evelyn Hugo who coming towards the end of her eventful life decides to give her final interview to Monique Grant and unknown Journalist.

I've heard so much hype about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I wasn't sure what to expect. Even some of friends that rarely venture outside of fantasy/sci-fi/thrillers have been raving about it. I try to read contemporary once in awhile to switch up my reading Genre from time to time. Heard good tell-all tales on this story of a fictional character that's an actor and about her 7 husbands. Evelyn Hugo hires Monique Grant a unpopular writer no one heard of. But Evelyn has her reasons to why she hired Monique. As the story kept going I figured it out long before reveille. One of the best books I’ve read in 2019 so far!

The characters are complex and believable. These are strong women. Evelyn Hugo has gone through her life and is unapologetic. The reporter is struggling but is coming in to her own. What hooked me though was the way the story unraveled. This was a great book just with the telling of Evelyn’s husbands but it was all the better with the twist at the end (which you know something is going to happen). Very well-written.

i can’t really place what’s stopping me from giving this a five stars. i think, for me at least, it was never going to live up to its hype.

also i didn’t cry and i felt kinda bad about it lol
