The story that inspired one of my favorite movies and several versions of the musical - The Sound of Music - was one that I'd always been interested in learning about. Not surprisingly Maria seemed to have been a delightful and scrappy individual, imbued with a steadfast belief in God, a genuine goodness, a "can do" attitude and a definite sense of humor.
