This is more of a 3.5 star rating. This book was selected for the upcoming season of my only in-person book club, and I probably would not have read it otherwise.

With current global affairs as its backdrop, the book delves into the intrigues of the world of spies and intelligence and moves from Cairo to Budapest and back to Cairo with flashbacks to 20 years ago when Sophie Kohl and her then boyfriend Emmett traveled in Europe during the breakup of Yugoslavia.
