This is a lovely book, almost like a fairy tale, but told in such a way that it sounds all true. It presents a great mix of feelings: love, hatred, or anger?, humor, friendship, spanning over several generatio9ns and different social milieux – I can’t resist to put the correct French ending to the plural of the French word milieu. Why is it that when French is stolen, it’s always misused? Sorry, I got off track suddenly.

If you like slow southern summer reads, this book is definitely for you. The voice of CeeCee Honeycutt and her tragic family life will capture your heart in no time. Overall I love the story, especially because CeeCee is easily to like. But, there are some off parts in this book as well. Some irrelevant topics, unconvincing characters, and unfinished plots. This is Beth Hoffman's first novel and I think I could see she's still struggling with making the story flowing nicely. But hopefully there ...more

You can't help falling in love with Ceecee and her wonderful Southern family. Life doesn't always give us happy endings, so when I read a book that is resolved just the way I would wish it is a pure delight. We visited Savannah a couple years ago during a trip to Disney World. I was so charmed by this beautiful city - I even have pictures we took in Forsyth Park which is mentioned more than once in the book. ...more
