Ken Follett knows how to tell a story. I always enjoy his books, some more than others. Fall of Giants was good, but not (in my opinion) as thoroughly absorbing as Pillars of the Earth. I do enjoy this subtle way of learning about a time in history that I'm probably not as well versed in as I should be. That being said, there was too much war description - from my feminine point of view that is. Just saying... ...more

I enjoyed this book, but it is very much light reading, particularly for a war novel. Don't let the fact that WWI breaks out in the middle of the story put you off from reading it. You can make it safely through the battle scenes in this book even if you are squeamish about violence. ...more

At first i wasn't sure i was going to really like this. But then it became my Downton Abbey away from Downton Abbey. (Except that i like Downton Abbey more. This is a fine stand-in between seasons, though.) Anyway, i am not sure what to do now...start Book 2 straight away? Or listen to something in between? ...more
