I've been curious about this novel since it was first published, and while I thought the storyline sounded good, with the Tasmanian setting an added bonus, I'm a reader who shies away from magical realism and fantasy. So I recognised that this book could go either way for me - the potential was there for it to leave me feeling either enchanted or nauseated. I'm happy to say I adored it, to the point where I can imagine wanting to re-read it one day.

4.5 stars. One of the best 'magic realist' stories I've ever read. Compelling and hard to put down.

A lovely quirky Tassie novel. Such a surreal story of interconnecting characters, some feel like they are straight out of The Dreaming. I didn't find it a quick read but that was probably because some of my normal family disruption interrupted this telling, which stems from some strange family disruption. It is probably also a story best savoured and had some terrific storytelling that I'd like to revisit one day.
