A boy is discovered murdered in a uni in Reykjavik with strange symbols carved into him, that tie back into Iceland's witchcraft past. Don't mind if I do. I mean, I really don't think you need to add anything else to that description to make it pure Rusalka crack.

I'd had this on my list to read for a while and finally picked it up at the library. It was ok and I kept going with it but it lacked the edge that some of the better Scandi crime has and I didn't particularly engage with the lead character, Thora, a lawyer employed by rich German family to prove that the person arrested for their sons murder didn't do it. I didn't like the relationship between her and the representative of family, and found the overall plot quite plodding and was glad to get to ...more

Iceland; crime

Started off well. A female lawyer asked to assist the family of a german student murdered. Got bogged down in the search for ancient documents; unrelated family issues and a rather lame romance. By the end of the book, I knew all about witchcraft in Iceland, but didn't care 'who done it'.

I really enjoyed reading "Last Rituals". Sometimes the history parts were a bit too long and hard to follow, but all in all it was interesting and captivating. I was always looking forward to go on. I also liked the character of Thora. She reminded me a bit of Bridget Jones in some ways. ...more
