I must say that I really liked this booked. I did not think I would when I first started, but in the end, I thought it was very touching.
The story is about a mother, who while en route to her eldest son's house for a birthday celebration, is separated from her husband while boarding a train in a Seoul station. Her children search for her but she is nowhere to be found.

At first, I thought the mother is probably sick of her family and took the opportunity to run away because who could not find t

This was an different kind of literary story, less a novel than a reflection on a character. When “Mom” goes missing, everyone in her family thinks about how she’s influenced her lives and wonders how well they knew her, if they gave her the respect she deserved. Except for one section, the entire book is written in second-person, which was pretty strange, especially since the “you” the narrator was referring to shifted multiple times. Please Look After Mom is a hauntingly beautiful book. When sixty-nine-year-old So-nyo is separated from her husband at a crowded subway station in Seoul, South Korea, her family begins a desperate search to find her. They begin asking the questions…Where could she have gone? Why has no one heard from her? Was it my fault? As So-nyo's children & husband reflect back on their years with her, they realize how much they didn't know about her, or at times failed to appreciate. It's a story that cuts ...more

This looks heartbreakingly sad.

Story of a very dysfunctional family that tries to hold it together after the mother of the family disappears. Family secrets, resentments, hopes -- it all comes out. As a first novel it is not bad at all. Four stars overall.
