I get what King is trying to do with this book, having the JFK assassination as goal for the main character to achieve, but its more about the main character's relationship with the other characters. I felt that was unneeded, so it would have been much better if the book was a normal novel at 300 to 400 pages, or a novella or novelette or even better a short story. Why does all his books now have to be a monster 700 pages+ novels in same way that feels like its dragging on forever, never ending? ...more

What might have happened if Kennedy hadn't been assassinated? That premise, the "Twilight Zone" feel, the dense period detail sucked me right in. I did find the middle overlong -- the pacing lagged at times. The real monsters here are not fantastical creatures but us. I like insights that King drops into his book, little moments of recognition or observations of human nature that ring true for me.

It's a shock to realize that most people living today were not alive when Kennedy was assassinated.

Got done listening to this on audio. I have to say that I really liked the person reading this. Also, this is a good book that's easy to listen to cause it keeps you interested.

I really like the yellow card man. I couldn't wait to see if there was any more of a meaning to him except at the entrance of the portal. He's always saying..."Who are you? What are you doing here?"

Now that I'm done with the book, I found out what the "yellow" card man was doing and his purpose in the book.

I loved that

Many more people have written better reviews of this book than I can but I absolutely loved it. King's construction of the physics involved in time-travel is mind-bending. His imagining of what might have happened had JFK livid -- a worst-case scenario -- is genuinely horrible. But above everything is the love story between Jake and Sadie. The last scene is about as beautiful as anything I have ever read. Love this book! ...more

Oh how I have missed Mr.King, master story teller with a knack for detail...I'm really enjoying this as "a blast from the past". I was about 12 years old when the "Cuban Missile crisis" happened, the author has captured the moment with all of the terror I remember. ...more
