A fable that addresses serious questions, this book is like Marquez's One hundred Years of Solitude, or several works by Louise Erdrich, in that the characters' understandings of phenomena - caused by sprites, witches, dybbuks etc. are treated as realities. There are physical descriptors, reviews of events and conversations with these beings. I love it when a writer can pull this off without any sort of intervention between the reader and the speaker. ...more
